Why this blog?
Here's my reason for this blog:
In Feb 2002 my life changed forever. I was no longer invincible. I had back surgery. L5-S1 fusion with pedicle instrumentation - to be exact. Up until 2009 I had no issues - no pain that I could associate to the surgery. Then it came - with a thunder. The aching, throbbing, and stabbing pain on my left side - my pain emanating from my left "hip" took me down.
Since the first onset of that pain in 2009, I've had 6 epidurals, 2 selective nerve blocks, and 2 nerve ablations. I have run across multiple doctors to try and get some relieve - orthopaedic doctors - MD's and DO's, neurosurgeons, and physical therapist's. The most significant thing I've learned over the last 11years is that you have to become your own "patient advocate." In order to maintain your own sanity you've got to take ownership of educating yourself on your condition, the fact that doctors are only human beings and what they say is not necessarily correct, and that if you want to stop having pain you must commit yourself to stopping at nothing until you get relieve.
I'm writing this blog as I make my journey to a pain free life so that maybe somewhere someone else may benefit from my struggle. In orders so that its not all been in vain!!!
